Aaargghh! "Jazz Is Dead" !! One of the most disappointing GD-related albums I've ever bought (along with "Fire On The Mountain" for that matter, which has one or two highlights but not many).

I reckon The Decemberists probably should win. The Phil and Friends version is pretty flaccid.

I have a live Jazz Is Dead show that I found worthy of a few listens - never heard the album though

"Fire On The Mountain" disappointing?

I'm assuming you mean Volume 2.

I was referring to "Fire On The Mountain: Reggae Celebrates The Grateful Dead". It's a while since I heard it but I seem to remember that the Steel Pulse and Toots Hibbert selections were OK; otherwise a forgettable collection.

Gotta go with my home town boys & girls, The Decemberists. Like Trey, but The Decemberists are on top of their game right now. My kids and I go around singing like the lead, not quite the mouthbreather of John Mayer, but he has a distinctive way of pronunciation.

i hate to admit it, but i think P&F got it pretty close. still comparatively weak next to any GD version; trey's singing and melodic interpretation just aren't quite there like any performed by Mr. Garcia.

In certain situations, abstention is as valid as casting a vote.
